Trend Alert: Sporty meets Edgy

Beautiful young woman with long blonde hair boxer braids

Lately, celebrity It girls have taken over a hairstyle that athletes have been wearing for ages, and we’re loving it. Boxer braids give a sweet everyday braid some much-appreciated edge. Essentially double braids that are woven together tightly and closely to the scalp, boxer braids are the celeb style du jour, and they are everywhere right now. Not only are they super practical to wear for your workout, but they are cool enough for just about any event you have on-deck.

Didn't wash your hair today but meeting your girls for a drink? Throw your hair into boxer braids. No time to blow-dry your wet hair? Try boxer braids. Need a cool style when you're taking a break from heat styling? Boxer braids.

If you’re feeling boxer braids like we are, but think they seem a little too time-consuming and complicated-- fear not! Below we break down the style-of-the-moment with a step-by-step how-to guide for mastering boxer braids!

  1. Step 1
Split your hair in half down your natural part using a rattail comb to achieve a straight line. This makes for a less drastic look than a forced center part.

  2. Step 2
Clip away one side of your hair. On the unclipped side, grab the section of hair at the top of your head and divide it into three equal sections and start braiding your hair, but cross the strands under the middle piece instead of over.

  3. Step 3
Continue braiding until you are about an inch away from the ends of your hair and secure the braid with an elastic band.

  4. Step 4
Repeat the process on the other side.

  5. Step 5
Once your braids are in, massage a volumizing powder like Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Biotin+ Volume Magic Volume Powder into your roots to expand and mess things up a little.

  6. Step 6
To finish, pull apart the braids just a little with your fingers to give them even more of a disheveled look and spritz them with Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Biotin+ Volume Hairspray.

Boxer braids are incredibly versatile and give you the freedom to easily change how you style and wear them. From loose ponytails to combining several braids together, you’ll discover a way to wear them that fits your personal style. An added bonus? This hairstyle is actually two looks in one. When you shake the braids out, you instantly have a head of perfectly wavy tresses. It may take some practice... but with our guide and essential products from the Schwarzkopf styliste ULTIME Biotin+ Volume line, we promise you'll be rocking boxer braids like an Instagram queen in no time!
