Spring Hairstyles For A Fresh New Look

Three models with long wavy bohemian hairstyles

Start planning your spring hair now for a brand new look that welcomes the fresh springtime sun. Hairstyles for spring can be worn long and loose, in a messy ponytail or gathered in a braid: remember, this season is all about being free-spirited and playful. Celebrity hair stylist Richard Collins breaks down the top three styles of the season and gives us the step by step of each, using his favorite Schwarzkopf® products.

Spring Hair Ideas: 3 Best Looks

Celebrity stylist Richard Collins has tousled the locks of almost every big name starlet there is, from Selena Gomez to Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale. Here he opens up to Schwarzkopf about his top three spring haircuts and offers top tips on how to style them. This season is all about the wave, so skip the straightening routine and loosen up with these Bohemian-inspired spring hairstyles!

Boho waves

Boho waves are trendy and stylish.

Loose, barely-there finger waves are everything this season, and according to Collins, this is one of the easiest spring hairstyles to create.

1.     Starting with semi-dry hair, add a small pump of göt2b® fat-tastic plumping mousse into your palms and gently work through the middle section of your hair and the ends. Leave this in while your hair dries completely.

2.     Next, take a one-inch portion of hair and wrap it around a wide-barrel curling iron. You don't want to clip hair into the barrel; wrapping allows you to curl all the way to the root. Also, make sure to leave ends loose to avoid a crimp mark. Release the curl after about fifteen seconds, then roll it up and bobby pin it close to the scalp.

3.     Alternate the direction of the curl as you work your way through each section – this will make the curls look more natural. Some curls can remain tight, some loose. Once the pinned curls have cooled, unpin them and separate with your fingers. Set hair with a final spritz of göt2b® Glam Force hairspray.

Low ponytail

Low ponytail

A low ponytail is a look for many occasions.

Another super easy and ultra low-key spring hairstyle Collins loves this season is a low, wavy ponytail hairstyle. Start by spritzing some anti-frizz serum onto damp hair and allow it to air dry. Then wrap sections of hair around a styling wand and hold for just five seconds. For this look, you don’t want tightly defined curls, just soft waves. Tousle through your waves using your fingers to separate them. Gather your hair back into a low ponytail just behind the crown of your head, secure with a tie, and wrap a strand of your hair around to conceal the elastic. Pull some strands out for an effortlessly messy spring hair look.

Textured fishtail

Long ponytail

This type of ponytail deserves to be seen.

The most boho of all spring hairstyles, according to Collins, is the textured fishtail braid. He suggests trying this on second-day hair, as very clean hair doesn’t hold the style as well. All braid hairstyles look great in spring, and they can be easily adapted to suit your face shape, hair length and texture, too.

To try out your own fishtail spring hairdo, follow these steps:

  • Apply göt2b® Powder’ful volume powder to dry hair and work into the roots for extra volume.
  • Position the braid near the nape of your neck, off to the side, and pull hair back into a ponytail. If this is your first time trying a fishtail, start by securing your hair with a disposable clear elastic band.
  • Divide the ponytail into two smaller, equal-sized sections. Separate a half-inch of hair from the outside of the left ponytail: pull this piece across the top of the hair on the left over to the right. Next, separate a half-inch section of hair from the outside of the right ponytail and pull this piece over to the left.
  • Repeat the previous step until you run out of hair. Keeping it messy is what gives it the boho-esque spring hair vibe. When you’re finished braiding, secure the ends with a second elastic. If you used an elastic to start at the nape of the neck, cut it out.
  • Finish by pulling some pieces out around your face and spritzing with a firm hold finishing spray.
