Brazilian hair straightening treatment is a semi-permanent method of hair straightening. It has many names including Brazilian Blowout, Breezilian straightening, Keratin Cure, Brazilian Keratin Treatment, and BKT. The process works on any type and texture of hair, even super fine hair. Don’t worry if you’ve recently colored your hair: the process is safe for dyed hair and may even make the color last longer!
The process works using keratin treatment. This hair straightening treatment smooths and adds shine to frizzy hair by forming a protective layer around each strand and sealing the cuticle so it’s safe from any future damage. Many believe keratin is responsible for the straightening part, but that’s actually formaldehyde’s job. This chemical works by breaking the hair’s bonds and resealing them in a straighter position. The formaldehyde solution is left on your hair for 20 minutes, then your hair gets blow-dried, and finally straightened in sections. A 450°F flat iron is used for the best results. The straightness of your hair in the end depends on how often the stylist runs it through the flat iron.
