Superb and Sterling: Silver Hair Is Incredible

If you had asked anyone a decade ago if they would be embracing silver or gray hair, who would have given an enthusiastic answer? Probably not too many people. And yet we find ourselves in the midst of a silver hair revolution as more and more people are getting on board with the silver hair trend. What was once seen as a color indicative of age is now being embraced with vigor and youth.

Silver hair color is incredibly versatile and complements a great many different styles and outfits. It's perfect for those with dark complexions as well as those who are fairer, making it an all-round champion color. Of course, not everyone can pull off silver hair and it takes a certain amount of courage to take the plunge from dark to light! However, if you're plucky enough to try it, then embracing silver hair shades might be one of the best decisions you ever make.

If you've ever wondered how to get silver hair, wonder no more! Of course, it's possible to visit a qualified hairdresser to get this done, however, if you're short on funds or time then there's definitely a way of achieving this at home. It's not for the faint of heart, and will require a certain level of commitment but it's worth it in the end since you're going to look fab.

Firstly, you're going to need to bleach your hair. Unless you're a natural level 10, there's no way to achieve platinum or silver hair shades without first lightening your hair dramatically. The amount that you will have to bleach your hair depends on your natural hair color, and it's incredibly important that you're careful during the entire process as bleach can damage your hair and skin if used incorrectly.

Next, you're going to have to tone your hair. This will get rid of the horrible yellow that the bleach imparts, and is absolutely essential to achieving pristine silver hair. A purple-based toner with a 5 or 10 volume developer is a good point to start. Leave it on your head for about half an hour before rinsing it off.

Silver hair care tips

Dyeing your hair silver is half of the battle; maintaining the color is where it really becomes difficult. Silver hair tends to fade pretty quickly, so you'll need some product to maintain its strength between dye sessions.

To keep the yellow tones out of your silver hair for as long as possible, use a purple shampoo that is also color correcting. If you notice that your hair is getting slightly yellow, you might have to resort to using a toner to correct it.

To ensure that your hair looks and feels healthy, then use a deep conditioning treatment, such as a hair mask, every week. It's important not to overdo it though; the more you wash your hair, the faster the dye will fade. When you do wash it, also opt for sulfate-free shampoo. Sulfates tend to remove color, so avoiding them will help you maintain your silver hair for longer
